Pretty & Powerful: Allyson Swilley

Allyson Swilley, 25 yrs old, Lash Artist of Lashawn Lashes

Q: How did you start within the profession you’re currently in & how long have you been it?

My boyfriend taught me a lot about business to be able to become my own boss. He has been encouraging and motivating me to learn a skill so I can know how to hustle. I became interested in lash extension so I informed him to find a professional lash class that I can take. I started training in December 2017 by Jamecia Whittlesey. It has been 1 year and 3 months that I’ve started my Lashawn Lashes business. My inspiration that keeps me thriving is watching other successful female entrepreneur on social media.

Q: What has been the hardest part of what you do, that you make look Pretty easy?

Perfecting my lash craft has been the hardest part. It takes a lot of practice to learn how to place the right lash on natural lashes.

Q: What has been your biggest achievement thus far, that you’re most proud of?

My biggest achievement thus far is being able to manage my business while I am receiving my education in the medical profession.

Q: What would you say makes you Pretty & Powerful? What do most call on you for? (your superpower)

What makes me Pretty & Powerful is my ability to silence people who doubt me due to my disability. For instance, I’ve experienced people who think deaf people are limited from doing things that normal people would do. However, I overcome my deafness by doing anything without restriction. Most people call on me because of my honesty, in which I can be very blunt and straightforward. Also, many people tell me that I am very encouraging and inspiring when they meet me or ask for help on certain things.

Q. What advice would you give to someone that may be aspiring to enter into the profession or industry you’re in?

From my experience, no matter what profession or industry you enter into, make sure you are happy and doing it for you, not because everyone else is doing it! Never do it just for the money because you will never be happy. Learn how to build a strong and trustworthy relationships with successful people because these people can influence your growth.

As for the lash artist industry, its important to be professional to provide the best service for your clients. You must know your worth and never sell yourself short!

Q: On a transparent level, name a moment when you almost gave up on your success journey, but found the momentum & power to move forward?

I almost gave up doing lashes when I became discouraged by not receiving a lot of clients and the lack of attention on my social media posts when promoting my business. What helped me find the momentum & power to move forward was the everyday encouragement I received from my boyfriend to be patient and not give up, my friends, and the positive feedback from clients on my work.

Q. What projects are you working on; that you can share & where do you see yourself in the next 3-5 years?

My current plan is working on repairing my credit, obtaining my Bachelor of Science in Health Science degree, and paying off my student loan. In the next 3-5 years, I would be working in medical profession, being an Entrepreneur , & become a homeowner.

Q: In closing what Powerful profound message would you leave to other fellow Pretty & Powerful females climbing the ladder to success?

To other fellow Pretty & Powerful females:

When you have a plan or idea comes to thought, write it down, Believe in yourself without allowing the doubts get into your thoughts. Whatever profession or industry you decide to enter, never allow anyone tell you what you can or can’t do. The brand is yours and you have to own it. Have faith and Keep God first. And lastly, your words and thoughts are very powerful so speak positive things over your life and always look for positive results in any situation you face in life!!
