Pretty & Powerful: Mrs. Latoya King

LaToya King , 42, King Bridal & Formal Boutique

Q: How did you start within the profession you’re currently in & how long have you been it?

I started in my profession 26 years ago working for a local company Henri’s Formalwear in Columbus Ga . I assisted the ladies that came in looking for Bridal Gowns, Bridesmaids and Formalwear for special occasions.

Q: What is your inspiration that keeps you thriving?2.) The inspiration to keep me thriving is my love and passion for helping women look good and feel good about themselves.

Finding balance between being a good wife, mother and business owner .

Q: What has been your biggest achievement thus far, that you’re most proud of?

My biggest achievement that I am proud of I was able to go into a new city and build my brand for my business and started one of the biggest Bridal Extravaganza in Wetumpka. I'm proud of myself for coming out of my comfort zone and taking more risk and being more confident in myself.

Q: What would you say makes you Pretty & Powerful? What do most call on you for? (your superpower)

My superpower is my willingness to help others and wanting more people to unify. I lot of people call on me for encouragement, because people tell me that I inspire them by not letting any obstacles get in my way. People also love the way I connect with others from all backgrounds of life. I love to uplift other’s to show them if I did it so can you .

Q. What advice would you give to someone that may be aspiring to enter into the profession or industry you’re in?

If someone was aspiring to own a Bridal Boutique, I would advise them to be unique stand out from any ordinary Bridal Boutique. Also, research the areas open in a niche market. Pray and ask God to give you creative ideas and ask how can use your business to fulfill his purpose for your life .

Q: On a transparent level, name a moment when you almost gave up on your success journey, but found the momentum & power to move forward?

I almost gave up when I had to closed my business in Phenix City due to my husband taking a job in Montgomery. Things didn’t work out for me when I first moved to Wetumpka, Alabama because God had other plans. My plan was to open in Montgomery because I didn’t really know anything about Wetumpka. To make a long story short, I'm glad God took me through the process to place me exactly where he wanted me to be. In doing that I met some wonderful people! This transition has made me a lot more confident in myself and starting to live out the purpose to help, motivate, and encourage others as they go along their entrepreneurial journey.

I almost gave up on my dream twice because after being open in Wetumpka a year my husband decided he wanted to move back to Phenix City after I had put so much work in and built business relationships and customer base. After praying and asking GOD to reveal to me what he wanted me to do for my business, he worked it out. I actually moved into a larger store!!!

Q. What projects are you working on; that you can share & where do you see yourself in the next 3-5 years?

Bridal Extravaganza of Wetumpka (3rd one ), I will have my 1st Women’s Retreat in the Bahamas in February. Working on my first book titled "Perseverance" will launch this summer. I want to have more collaboration projects coming up The Mother and Son Dance of Montgomery and the Royal Gala (Adult Prom)

In 3-5 years I can see myself owning 3 Bridal and Formal Boutique's . I see my self as a motivational speaker uplifting and helping young ladies to show them no matter where your from you can be successful .These are just my plans. Ultimately it’s whatever God Plan is for my life, I will just let him LEAD ME!

Q: In closing what Powerful profound message would you leave to other fellow Pretty & Powerful females climbing the ladder to success?

I would tell all my fellow P&P females Pray everyday and let God lead you. Pursue your passion! Live your purpose and don’t let anyone or anything stop you from achieving your goals. If you have to be your own cheerleader do that . Don’t wait other people to celebrate your success.. Stay Focused on what your goal is!!
