Girls In Charge: Jessica Mack

Jessica McClurkin Gates aka Jessica Mack 33 Job Title/ Position: CEO / Owner of Mack Couture and Radio Personality on D30Radio Education: College Diploma in Cosmetology (Crazy I know LOL)

How did you break into your industry or get started?

I have always had a passion for fashion. When I was younger I would make my own Barbie clothes and play store in my room! i originally started a Dance Studio called Dance Dot Com, however after only a year of business I suffered a bad knee injury and had to have a partial knee replacement at the age of 33. I went through a heavy state of depression and the lord showed me my Destiny! My sister Shanta Patrick and I discussed starting a business under the MACK family name........So September 15, 2013 I opened Mack Couture to not only make myself feel beautiful again but to also make others feel beautiful as well.

What is your inspiration?

My family, friends, customers and followers. Every time I feel as if I want to throw in the towel I get a call, text or see a Facebook post of someone in one of my pieces and it pushes me even hardier. Also when i meet complete strangers that thank me for what I do!

What has been the hardest part of what it is you do?

When I started Mack it was strictly just for fun! I love fashion and I love shopping. I started off strictly online. After many successful events and a high demand of sales I had to open a physical location! The hard part was quitting my full time job(guaranteed check) and being an entrepreneur! It was one of the hardest things Ive done in my life but I praise God I have not missed a beat since I stepped out on faith!

What has been your biggest achievement thus far?

Other than being known for hosting the HOTTEST fashions shows in Columbus GA!!! I also am honored to say that I was selected to showcase in the 2016 North Carolina Style Week where I was able to not only display my pieces but I was also able to meet buyers for major stores and meet stylist and designers who create items for Beyonce, Tyson Beckford, Solange, Whoopi Goldberg etc. When i asked the creator of the event who she knew me she said.... " I follow you on social media, I love what you do, I love how you make people feel, I just had to have you here in the show!"

What advice would you give to someone trying to get his or her foot in the door?

The sky isn't the limit..... reach pass that! Dreams can come true! I always tell people to make sure to follow your heart, do plenty of research and make sure to always give the best customer service possible. In the fashion industry you must always stay on top of "whats hot" and make sure to offer great quality pieces. Also make sure to attend as many fashion events as possible..... its really not what you know its who you know and I know ALOT of people now!

What projects are you working on?

The Blue Print..... it is the Fashion Show that is in Celebration of Mack Coutures 4 Year Anniversary! This show will be on September 16, 2017 at The National Infantry Museum. Of course I have a few events and projects that will take place before the end of the yea as well as in 2018 that Im working on but I can't leak those... I prefer to move in silence!

Where do you see yourself in 5 Years?

I have accomplished ALOT in 4 years..... In the next 5 years I plan to have several Mack Couture Boutique locations throughout the US, Fashion Shows throughout the US, a celebrity stylist and also have a modeling academy! Links: www.themackcouture FB, IG an Twitter Mack Couture
