How did you break into your industry or get started? I got started in the nonprofit world by volunteering with other nonprofit organizations for over 5 years. I have also mentored nursing students as they journey through nursing school
What is your inspiration? My biggest inspiration is my family and my very own past. I was always taught to pay it forward. I have survived being a young victim of rape, a victim of teenage dating violence, and losing three of the most important people in my life in a time span of 10 years. My lessons, shortcomings, and downfalls have taught me to be resilient, persistent, consistent, and grateful. My love for people is not just about TOTES 4 Tomorrow but it is about doing things that will engage my community. I will be the voice!
What has been the hardest part of what you do? The hardest part of what I do is realizing that some relationships will end and while I may have valued them I will remain true to myself.
What has been your biggest achievement thus far? Expanding Pizza & Packages in to a school setting.
What advice would you give to someone trying to get his or her foot in the door? I would tell someone trying to get his or her foot in the door is to get a mentor and invest in your brand. Furthermore, I would tell them to stick to their mission and/or vision and remain authentic. The road will not be easy but surround yourself with like-minded people who you trust.
What projects are you working on (that you can share)? I am currently working on the Kickstart College Award and Pizza & Packages. The Kickstart College award will provide monetary assistance to graduating high school students. Pizza & Packages is a community event based on teaching children to give back.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years? I see myself expanding the current events that TOTES 4 Tomorrow offers and hosts. I also see myself incorporating my nursing experience (17 years to be exact!) into the organization.
